Chapter Fifteen

Dela caught up to Heath. “Can you give me a ride to my house? I want to get my car.”

“Sure. I delivered the forensic reports to Pierce. Want to go now?” Heath fell in step beside her as they walked toward the elevator.

Quinn stood at the door talking on the phone.

“I have to grab my purse out of the office. I’ll meet you at the entrance.” She didn’t want Quinn saying he’d take her home. She didn’t plan on him going with her to talk to Stacy Silva. Dela walked by the elevator and down the hall to the service elevator by the housekeeping room.

Stepping into the service elevator, she relaxed. The sooner this murder was solved the sooner her life could get back to normal. She didn’t like having to follow Quinn around or feeling like the rope between two tug of war teams. Neither one had the right to think she was their possession. She wasn’t anyone’s possession.

In the security office, she let Tammie know she’d be gone for a couple of hours. “I’ll be back by nine at the latest. Let Kenny know.”

“I will. Enjoy your dinner.”

Dela didn’t say otherwise. It was that time of day.

She joined Heath at the casino entrance. He had two hotdogs in his hands. He held one out to her.

“I don’t like eating alone,” he said, as they exited the building.

“I had planned to grab something at home, but thanks.” She bit into the end of the dog hanging out of the bun and chewed. There was nothing like the plump hotdogs the deli made, smothered with relish and mustard. It appeared Heath had remembered many things from their time together in high school.

“You going to stay home and rest?” he asked, opening his passenger side door for her.

While on the inside, she thought it was sweet he held the door for her, on the outside, she wasn’t about to let him know that little action had affected her. Dela lowered into the tribal car, not rubbing her back against the seat. She finished eating her hot dog as Heath started the car, called in he was off on a break, and pulled out of the parking lot.

“How did the trip to Cambridge go this morning?” he asked, taking a bite of his hot dog.

“Quinn and I both got the feeling the CEO is up to his colored hair in stopping the breaching.” As the words came out, she realized what had appeared ‘off’ with the man. His hair color had been too dark for his pasty complexion.

“Why do you say that?”

She went on to tell him what they’d learned from Palmer and the information that had been sent to Quinn from a tech at the company. “I’m going to see Stacy Silva at the Rose’s. I want to ask her about her husband’s boss. Palmer didn’t have very good things to say about the man.”

Heath parked on the road in front of her house. The short driveway to her garage had two small-sized pickups and Travis’s large pickup blocking the way.
